With the growth of dedicated microprocessor technology over the past several years, the tedious task of interpreting strip charts can be handled by a small dedicated computer. The Data Measurements System incorporates a sensor in the slitting line to monitor activity. On a single concise report we now have available a complete record of the coil thickness. The operator simply sets the target gauge and the tolerance requirements. After gauging the coil, a report is generated that computes the percentage of the coil which falls precisely in the desired range. The length of the coil is measured and we can determine exactly where the off-gauge condition was encountered. If the entire master coil is in gauge, a histogram of the thickness distribution is generated. We also have the capability to generate a summary report of the cross strip profile.
